Active surveillance For Prostate Cancer

Active surveillance involves monitoring the cancer closely with prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood tests, digital rectal exams (DREs), and ultrasounds at regular intervals to see if the cancer is growing.
With active surveillance, your cancer will be carefully monitored. Usually this approach includes a doctor visit with a PSA blood test and DRE about every 3 to 6 months.

Watchful waiting For Prostate Cancer

Watchful waiting is sometimes is a less intensive type of follow-up which involves fewer tests and relying more on changes in a man's symptoms with prostate cancer to decide if treatment is needed.

Not all doctors agree with these definitions or use them exactly this way. In fact, some doctors prefer to no longer use the term watchful waiting. They feel it implies that nothing is being done, when in fact a man is still being closely monitored.

♦ Radiation Therapy or Radiotherapy For Prostate Cancer

Radiation therapy uses high-energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, or protons, to destroy or damage cancer cells. This treatment is an alternative for curing localised prostate cancer and locally-advanced diet plan. Radiotherapy can likewise be utilized to slow the progression of metastatic prostate cancer and relieve symptoms.

♦ Chemotherapy For Prostate Cancer For Prostate Cancer

Chemotherapy (chemo) is the use of medicines or drugs to treat cancer.Chemotherapy uses anti-cancer drugs injected into a vein or given by mouth. Chemotherapy works by slowing down or stopping the growth of cancer cells.
Chemotherapy is mainly used to treat prostate cancer that has spread to other parts of the body (metastatic prostate cancer) and which is not responding to hormone therapy.

♦ Hormone Therapy For Prostate Cancer

Hormone therapy is likewise called androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) or androgen suppression therapy. The objective of Hormone therapy  is to reduce levels of male hormones, called androgens, in the body, or to prevent them from reaching prostate cancer cells.
Hormone therapy is often used in combination with radiotherapy in Prostate cancer Treatment.  For instance, you may receive hormone therapy before undergoing radiotherapy to increase the chance of a successful treatment.

♦ Surgery For Prostate Cancer

For prostate cancer, a urologist or urologic oncologist is the surgical oncologist involved in treatment. The type of surgery depends on the stage of the disease, the man’s general health, and different components.

Immunotherapy is designed to boost the body’s natural defenses to fight the cancer. It utilizes materials made either by the body or in a laboratory to improve, target, or restore immune system function. Sipuleucel-T (Provenge) is a cancer vaccine used to treat advanced prostate cancer.

Sipuleucel-T is adapted for each patient. Before treatment, blood is removed from the patient in a process called leukapheresis. Special immune cells are separated from the patient’s blood, modified in the laboratory, and then put back into the patient. At this point, the patient’s immune system may recognize and destroy the prostate cancer cells.

♦ Bone-directed treatments for Prostate cancer

Bone-directed treatments are basically used for Preventing and treating prostate cancer  that spread to bone.
If prostate cancer grows outside of the prostate gland itself, it may first grow into nearby tissues or spread to nearby lymph nodes.

♦ Cryosurgery for prostate cancer
