Skin cancer Treatments
Skin cancer is an abnormal growth of skin cells. It most often develops on areas of the skin exposed to the sun’s rays. Skin cancer affects people of all colors and races, although those with light skin who sunburn easily have a higher risk. Skin Cancer can be completely cured if some treatments is done in time.
1. Surgery for skin cancer
Surgery is the main treatment for skin cancer.Surgery involves various surgical procedures used to treat cancer. Most basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers can be effectively treated with surgery. In most cases the surgery is minor. The affected area is completely removed, usually under local anaesthetic. depends mostly on the size of the cancer and where it is.
→ Mohs micrographic surgery:
In Mohs micrographic surgery the tumor is cut from the skin in thin layers. Layers continue to be removed until no more cancer cells are seen. This type of surgery removes as little normal tissue as possible.

→ Simple excision:
In Simple excision the tumor is cut from the skin along with some of the normal skin around it.
→ Shave excision:
In Shave excision the abnormal area is shaved off the surface of the skin with a small blade.
→ Electrodesiccation and curettage:
In Electrodesiccation and curettage the tumor is cut from the skin with a curette (a sharp tool). A needle-shaped electrode is then used to treat the area with an electric current that stops the bleeding and destroys cancer cells that remain around the edge of the wound. The procedure may be repeated one to three times during the surgery to remove all of the cancer.
→ Laser surgery:
Laser surgery a surgical process that uses a laser beam of intense light as a knife to make bloodless cuts in tissue or to remove a surface tumor.→ Dermabrasion:
Dermabrasion is a process of removal of the top layer of skin using a rotating wheel or small particles to rub away skin cells. It is used to treat some kinds of cancer and some precancerous or noncancerous conditions, and can be used inside the body and on the skin.2. Cryosurgery for skin cancer
Cryosurgery also known as cryotherapy is a treatment that uses an instrument to freeze and destroy abnormal tissue, such as carcinoma in situ.
3. Radiation therapy or Radiotherapy for skin cancer
Radiation therapy uses high-energy particles or waves, such as x-rays, gamma rays, electron beams, or protons, to destroy or damage cancer cells.
Radiotherapy particularly useful in areas like face and deep skin tumors where surgery might be difficult or disfiguring. However, it's not recommended for young people as it can cause skin changes, which become more noticeable over the years.

Topical chemotherapy For Skin Cancer
Chemotherapy (chemo) is the use of medicines or drugs to treat cancer. Chemotherapy works by slowing down or stopping the growth of cancer cells. It is not commonly used for skin cancers. In Topical chemotherapy the chemotherapy cream is applied once or twice a day for a number of weeks.
The treatment should make the skin red and inflamed. Once the area becomes sore and weepy, the treatment will need to be stopped. Your doctor can prescribe a steroid cream to reduce the inflammation if it’s very sore. The skin will take a week or two to heal after treatment finishes.
5. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) for skin cancer
Photodynamic therapy also known as photoradiation therapy, phototherapy, or photochemotherapy is a treatment that uses special drugs, called photosensitizing agents, along with light to kill cancer cells.
In PDT, laser light is shined onto the skin and the drug becomes active and kills the cancer cells. Photodynamic therapy causes little damage to healthy tissue.
