Breast Cancer Definition :-

Breast cancer is one of the most common of all cancers. Around one in nine women develop breast cancer at some stage in their life. Most develop in women over the age of 50 but younger women are sometimes affected. Breast cancer can also rarely develop in men.
Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that develops from breast cells. Breast cancer occurs when malignant tumors develop in the breast. These cells can spread by breaking away from the original tumor and entering blood vessels or lymph vessels, which branch into tissues throughout the body. Thus cancer cells travel to other parts of the body and begin damaging other tissues and organs, this process is called metastasis.

There are many types of Breast cancer. Given below are some of the common Breast cancers types: -

∗ Breast cancer Types: Noninvasive (in situ)

Noninvasive or in situ (in their place of origin )is a type of breast cancer that refers to cancer in which the cells have remained within their place of origin that is they haven't spread to breast tissue around the duct or lobule.
One type of noninvasive cancer called Ductal Carcinoma in situ (DCIS) is considered a precancerous lesion. This means that if it were left in the body, DCIS could eventually develop into an invasive cancer.
Another type of noninvasive cancer called Lobular Carcinoma in situ (LCIS) isn't considered precancerous because it won't eventually evolve into invasive cancer. LCIS does, however, increase the risk of cancer in both breasts.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Invasive breast cancer

Invasive or infiltrating breast cancer is that which spread outside the membrane that lines a duct or lobule, attacking the surrounding tissues. The cancer cells can then travel to different parts of your body, such as the lymph nodes. If your breast cancer is stage I, II, III or IV, you have invasive breast cancer.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Ductal carcinoma

Ductal carcinoma is the most common type of breast cancer. This type of cancer forms in the lining of a milk duct within your breast. The ducts carry breast milk from the lobules, where it's made, to the nipple.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Lobular carcinoma

Lobular carcinoma is a breast cancer type that starts in the lobules of the breast, where breast milk is produced. The lobules are connected to the ducts, which carry breast milk to the nipple.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Rarely Breast Cancer

Rarely breast cancer can begin in the connective tissue which is made up of muscles, fat and blood vessels. Cancer that begins in the connective tissue is called sarcoma. Phyllodes tumor and Angiosarcoma are the examples of sarcomas that can occur in the breast.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Paget's disease

Paget's disease is a rare breast cancer type. It is found in 1 to 4 out of every 100 breast cancers (1 to 4%).

Paget's disease starts in the nipple. It generally first appears as a red, scaly rash of the skin over the nipple and areola. It can be itchy. If it isn't treated, or if you scratch it, it can bleed, ulcerate and may scab over. It looks very similar to other skin conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.

Inflammatory breast cancer (IBC) is a rare and aggressive form of breast cancer. IBC usually starts with the reddening and swelling of the breast . Inflammatory breast cancer tends to grow and spread quickly, with symptoms worsening within days or even hours. It’s important to recognize symptoms and seek prompt treatment.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Invasive ductal breast cancer (IDC)

Invasive ductal breast cancer also called ductal carcinoma is the most common type of breast cancer. Around 90 out of every 100 breast cancers diagnosed (90%) are this type. A ductal carcinoma of the breast is a cancer that started in the cells that line the ducts of the breasts and has begun to spread into the surrounding breast tissue.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Invasive Lobular breast cancer(ILC)

Around 1 in 10 breast cancers diagnosed (10%) are invasive lobular carcinoma. In this type of Breast cancer, tumor started in the cells that line the lobules of the breast and has spread into the surrounding breast tissue. Invasive lobular cancer most common in women between 45 and 55 years old.

∗ Breast cancer Types: Angiosarcoma of the breast

Breast angiosarcomas are very rare type of soft tissue sarcoma. Angiosarcoma cancers that start in the cells that make up the walls of blood vessels or lymphatic vessels. There are 2 main types of Angiosarcoma:-
Haemangiosarcomas start in blood vessel walls and lymphangiosarcomas start in lymph vessel walls.

The causes of breast cancer aren't fully understood, making it hard to say why one woman may develop breast cancer and another may not.

Your risk of developing breast cancer can increase with the amount of liquor you drink.

Certain medical procedures that use radiation, such as X-rays and computerized tomography (CT) scans, may slightly increase your danger of developing breast cancer.

♥ Breast cancer Causes: Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is associated with a slightly increased risk of developing breast cancer. Both combined HRT and oestrogen-only HRT can increase your risk of developing breast cancer, despite the fact that the risk is slightly higher if you take combined HRT.

Research has shown that women who use oral contraception pill have a slight, but significant, increased risk of developing breast cancer.
