Breast Cancer Prevention

Given below are some of the preventive measure to avoid  Breast Cancer :-

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Maintain your weight

Obesity raises the risk of breast cancer after menopause, the time of life when breast cancer most often occurs. Maintain the right body composition. Do some exercise or Yoga to avoid gaining weight.

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Practice Good Eating habits

Good eating habits is very important factor for breast cancer prevention. Take a diet high in vegetables and fruit and low in sugared drinks, refined carbohydrates and fatty foods. Fruits and vegetables such as leafy greens, carrots, and red peppers contains Carotenoids which is very essential for avoiding Breast Cancer.
Harvard researchers recently found that women who had the highest carotenoid levels in their blood had a 19% lower risk of breast cancer than those with the lowest levels.

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Keep physically active

Moderate daily exercise reduces breast cancer risk. Regular practice of Yoga helps regulates the endocrine system, and thus our hormones.
Research suggests that increased physical activity, even when begun later in life, reduces overall breast-cancer risk by about 10 percent to 30 percent. Daily moderate exercise or walk for 30-minute is very effective.

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Limit alcohol

Alcohol use is connected with an increased risk of breast cancer. Women should limit intake to no more than one drink per day, regardless of the type of alcohol.

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Quit Smoking

Research suggests that long-term smoking is associated with increased risk of breast cancer in some women. Stop Smoking, It's never too Late!

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Consider breast-feeding

Women who breast-feed their babies for at least a year in total have a lessened danger of developing breast cancer later. Because a woman doesn't menstruate while breast-feeding, it limits the number of cycles she has over a lifetime, which lowers the amount of estrogen to which her body is exposed.

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Avoid hormone replacement therapy

Menopausal hormone therapy increases risk for breast cancer. If you must take hormones to manage menopausal symptoms, avoid those that contain progesterone and limit their use to less than three years. “Bio-identical hormones” and hormonal creams and gels are no safer than prescription hormones and should also be avoided.

♥ Breast Cancer Prevention: Get regular breast cancer screenings

Regular Breast cancer screening is an important part. Follow your doctor or health care provider’s recommendations to decide what type of screening you need and how often you need it.

Breast Cancer Treatment

Prognosis of breast cancer :

Basically, there are 6 types of treatment available for Breast cancer :-

∗ Breast cancer Treatment: Surgery

Surgery is often needed to remove a breast tumor.Surgery involves various surgical procedures used to treat breast cancer. Options for this include breast-conserving surgery and mastectomy(surgery to remove the entire breast). The breast can be reconstructed at the same time as surgery or later on. Surgery is likewise used to check the lymph nodes under the arm for cancer spread.

∗ Breast cancer Treatment: Radiotherapy

The high-energy radiation used during radiotherapy permanently damages the DNA of cancer cells, causing them to die. Radiotherapy is also used alongwith chemotherapy (chemo-radiotherapy), to try to cure cancers.
Radiotherapy can also be used before surgery to shrink a tumor so it's easier to remove (known as neoadjuvant treatment), or after surgery to destroy small amounts of tumor that may be left (known as adjuvant treatment).

∗ Breast cancer Treatment: Chemotherapy

Chemotherapy (chemo) is the use of medicines or drugs to treat cancer. Chemotherapy works by slowing down or stopping the growth of cancer cells. It may be given intravenously (injected into a vein) or by mouth.

∗ Breast cancer Treatment: Hormone Therapy

Hormone therapy is most often used as an adjuvant therapy to help reduce the risk of the cancer coming back after surgery. It can also be used as neoadjuvant treatment. It is also used to treat cancer that has come back after treatment or has spread.

∗ Breast cancer Treatment: Targeted Therapy

Targeted Therapy is a newer type of cancer treatment that uses drugs or other substances to more precisely identify and attack cancer cells, usually while doing little damage to normal cells.
These targeted drugs work differently from standard chemotherapy (chemo) drugs. They often have different (and less severe) side effects.

∗ Breast cancer Treatment: Bone-directed Therapy

When cancer spreads to bones, it can cause pain and lead to bones weakening of bones, breaking (fractures) and other problems which can be very painful. Drugs like bisphosphonates and denosumab can help prevent these problems.
